Updates are super simple. Just download the update software Windows only , plug the detector into your computer, and click Update.
Thanks for the quick reply. You seem to alot about radar. Any idea of the most common types used in BC? Thanks for that. As a Mac user, I agree that Mac update software is necessary. I run into the same issues with Radenso and Escort products too though. I wish more companies would make Mac update software a priority. Could you do a test of how well the R3 detects radar emissions coming from behind?
I was wondering if an interesting test would be to turn the unit around backwards and perhaps mount it in the rear window and then drive forward toward a radar source.
Hi Robert, I would like to see that test too. Hey Robert, so a rear test with the R1 and R3 was just done this past weekend! Any plans to publish the setup and best settings for the R3, as you have done for the other top detectors?
Sometime Laser which would not stop a ticket ,if u were speed ing. Which would you you recommend the DFR7 or R1 even thought the differences is only of GPS is the biggest thing to consider. If you drive through the same urban areas at all if you have automatic door openers or speed signs that trigger your Whistler every time you drive by , get the DFR7. If not, get the R1. How do you get early warnings??? You buy a product that detect radar from a further distance than any other.
Just by the images above, you can probably guess that there are many similarities in these long range radar detectors. The displays are very similar and both come packaged as a kit with a power cord, two mount, and a portable carrying case.
The major difference between these two models is GPS! The Uniden R3 has it, and the R1 does not. Believe it or not, it there are many different benefits that come along with that added GPS chip. R3 — Secondary Differences So that covers the main differences. The R3 has a darker chrome top while the R1 has an all-black top cover. This is handy when your detector is plugged into an always-on power source. The R1 displays your vehicle voltage, while the Uniden R3 allows you to change the display to show the altitude, compass, or speed.
With the R3, you can do this by pressing the Menu button on top for more than 3 seconds. The R3 automatically dims the display at night since the GPS automatically knows the time of your location. Both detectors are excellent in their performance ratings.
